Atelier Gaston de Luppé


In 2009  space and activities preparation of the Association "L'Atelier Gaston de Luppé"
located in the historical center of Arles (south of France),close to the Roman amphitheatre
and the antique theatre.
Start of the activities planned in 2010 : museum,art gallery,and ateliers.
You will find below a sumary of the life and activities of Gaston de Luppé
to help present the Association "L'Atelier Gaston de Luppé' objectives.




The sculptor Gaston de Luppé was born the 4th of march 1872 in Paris where he died on August 13th 1939.
He received a classical education in England and then attended the Art Déco school in Paris.
In 1900 he set up a sculpture atelier in the city of Arles in a place where he had to perform  a lot of repair
with the help of artists such as Jean Amédée Gibert(Rome price for painting) also an architect
who transformed the site in a Florentine style palace and decorated some large rooms with
very original paintings which can still be seen to day.
He met the painter Léo Lelée and invited him in Arles. Lelée settle in Arles and became a Frederic Mistral
follower who called him the Arlésiennes painter.
While in Arles Gaston de Luppé received and lodged many arists.He gave to the city some sculptures
still in parks and avenues.He was also interested in archeology.
Her daughter Diane de Luppé (who died in 2007) and her husband Christian de Maynard decided
to revive his atelier and with Christiane Perret-by (Cris Pereby), painter and sculptor,
use it as a culture place open to everyone in the spirit of Gaston de Luppé.
